Shyuji Classes
Beginning and Intermediate classes in Japanese calligraphy. Individual and Group lessons, children to adult.
Beginning class objectives:
- To learn kana (the Japanese syllabaries, hiragana and katakana) and basic Kanji.
- To learn the way of using the fude (brush) and other calligraphy equipment.
- To enjoy learning Japanese shyuji.
Intermediate class objectives:
- To continue to learn kanji.
- To continue to learn the way of using the fude (brush) and other calligraphy equipment.
- To learn the four basic kinds of shyuji.
- To enjoy learning Japanese shyuji.
All classes are taught at my home in College Station, Texas.
Private lessons are $20 for a one-hour lesson, but we can negotiate longer lessons and additional lesson fees.
Group lessons have a maximum of five students, $15 an hour lesson for 2 to 3 students; $12 an hour for 4 to 5 students.
Days and times negotiable. Classes are at least once a week. Fees are paid in advance by the month and are non-refundable. In the event I have to cancel, we will arrange a make-up lesson.
In addition, students must buy their own materials*. The cost will depend on the quality of the materials.
